Raiders sign FA safety Keith Davis

According to Adam Caplan of, the Raiders have signed free agent S Keith Davis. Contract details are not yet known.

Davis started nine games at strong safety last season filling in for Pro Bowler Roy Williams in Dallas. He is described by various scouting services as a special teams hit who can play the run. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys in 2002 and played six years for Cowboys.

While the Raiders may already have a player in Hiram Eugene that does the exact same thing, injecting some competition and depth in that area will be a good thing.

The Raiders made a run at him in free agency last year but he signed with the Dolphins — only to get cut and re-signed by the Cowboys. So it stands to reason that they remained interested in his services since that time.

This is great news as I had Keith Davis on my short list (in fact he was the ONLY FA safety on my list) of players that the Raiders should sign this offseason. He becomes yet another example of how this offseason’s wait and see approach is paying off. He was one of a small few players available at the safety position in free agency that was worth signing.
