Five Takeaways from Week Two

Week 2 of the NFL season brought about a clutch performance by an old veteran QB, and several injuries, including one to a Super Bowl contender.

Here are five QB Tidbits from Week 1:

5- Jameis Winston bounces back, picks up first win

In his first game as a pro, Winston completed less than half the passes her threw, fired two touchdowns and two interceptions as Tampa lost badly to Tennessee. In Week 2, Winston completed 67% of his passes, threw one touchdown pass, no interceptions, and added a rushing touchdown as the Bucs went into New Orleans and picked up their first win on the season.

4- What happened to Sam Bradford?

A week ago, I wrote about how impressive Sam Bradford was in the season opener, but on Sunday, he was horrible. In fact, in eight total quarters this season, he’s only been impressive for two of them. A monster interception in the end zone and a fumble on a snap when Bradford wasn’t ready, killed drives that would have got Philadelphia back into a sluggish game against Dallas.

3- Sophomore QB class rebounds, all win in Week 2

In the first week of the season, the Sophomore QB class of Bortles, Manziel, Bridgewater, and Carr all lost. In Week 2, they all won, no lie, they ALL won.

Bortles and the Jags upset the Dolphins, Manziel fired for two touchdowns as the Browns beat Tennessee, Bridgewater and the Vikings beat the Lions 26-16, and Derek Carr and the Raiders outdueled the Ravens to a 37-33 win.

In total, the 2014 Sophomore class finished with 8 touchdown passes, 1 interception, 1 rushing touchdown, and a perfect 4-0 record.

2- Brady continues to dominate

Brady’s Week 2 matchup at Buffalo was supposed to be one of the games of the week, instead for three quarters, it was a reminder of why the Patriots are the best team in football. Brady absolutely dominated the Bills, completing 38 of 59 passes for 466 yards and three touchdowns. The Pats were up 37-13 until Buffalo made a run in the 4th quarter to close to within 5, before Brady led New England on one final scoring drive, putting the game out of reach.

1- Romo injury put Dallas in a tough spot

The Dallas Cowboys were/are a Super Bowl contender. Injuries though, have shaken up this team, and on Sunday, Dallas lost it’s best player- Tony Romo for a while.

No. 9 suffered a broken collarbone and will miss anywhere from 8-12 weeks, meaning he’s out 7-11 games. In that stretch, Dallas has games against Atlanta, at New Orleans, New England, at New York Giants, Seattle, Philly, at Tampa, at Miami, and host Carolina on Thanksgiving.

It’s a brutal schedule, and not having Dez Bryant was already tough enough, toss in Tony Romo and it’s tough sledding for Dallas over the course of the next two to three months.
