Coyotes and Rangers, again

I was hoping to be able to write about how great it was to see the Coyotes win last night, but that didn’t happen. The most entertaining part of the game was twitter. And the Hockey Fights Cancer stories. It was great of the Coyotes to let the kids hang out and be part of the game. The Coyotes also had a short Yandle video. I wasn’t expecting it, but it was nice to see. I don’t think Yandle expected it either and he looked quite humble when he realized it was playing.

“It was amazing,” Yandle said of the video. “I didn’t expect it. It was one of those things where it caught me by surprise. It was something that I will never forget, and it was really nice for them to do it.”

The Coyotes need to figure out a way to capitalize on their chances. During the first there was a handful of times I thought it was going to be a goal, to the point I was about to jump up. Martinook has really made the extra effort these last few games. He should have a breakout game soon. He also seems to be battling for the puck much more than I recall from previous games.

The Coyotes started off slow but gained momentum. I thought it was going to be a low shot on goal night, but the ended up with more than the Rangers. They just couldn’t get one past Raanta. I think once the offense clicks, they will be a force to be reckoned with. They appear to be right on the cusp. The power play has the bones to be lethal. The pieces and talent are there, they just haven’t put two and two together yet.

Grossmann was lost to injury in the first, which put a damper on the scoring. He was our offensive juggernaut in the game against the Avalanche with two goals. He is listed as day-to-day. We have had a tough run with injuries this season.

Hanzal is still struggling to get his first goal but is racking up the assists. He has 13 assists so far and almost had a goal last night but was disallowed due to being played with a high stick. I am ok with Hanzal not scoring as long as he keeps assisting those on his line.

It still sucks to lose, but the games are much more exciting than last season. I hope to see them start to get a few more goals and maybe win a few. I look forward to seeing what this team can do when they finally figure it out. Let’s make that sooner rather than later.
