Tuberville to survive tough time

The Bearcats have had a torrid time of late and have really struggled to lift themselves out of a dangerous slump.

Tommy Tuberville is now under real pressure to turn the Bearcats around.

Despite a late rally, UC lost 45-20 to the South Florida Bulls in an American Conference football game last weekend, in front of 33,108 fans.

There was some cheering, initially because of former UC starting quarterback Gunner Kiel’s entrance in the third quarter, but it soon turned to booing when the Bearcats collapsed for another loss.

Afterwards, when many called for his head, coach Tuberville came out fighting and blamed recruitment while addressing fan unrest:

“We have got to recruit. We don’t want to be the Cincinnati of 20 years ago. We don’t want to go into that again…We’re getting to the point where we can recruit against anybody. We’re getting to the point where we’ve got facilities better than most anybody. We’ve got stuff to sell, but we’ve got to sell an atmosphere here during games, not a negative one, a positive one.”

Tuberville is 28-16 in his fourth year with Bearcats. He tasted success in 2014 by sharing the AAC title, but slipped in 2015 with a poor 7-6 record and there is a real worry that UC are in terminal decline after the Brian Kelly and Butch Jones eras. If you’re looking for sports betting and super markets, look no further than Betway – featuring odds on all Bearcats, college and NFL games.

However, Tuberville remains resilient and confident things will change. The first half against South Florida was magnificent, but went on to go scoreless in the second half, an inconsistency Tuberville needs to stamp out despite some quarterback difficulties.

The Bearcats ran the ball well and consistently made progress in the first down, showing signs of progress.

Weirdly, it was perhaps the best defensive game the Bearcats have played in a while, despite losing by 25. They buzzed around the field covered every blade of grass, recorded two sacks and played a solid third down.

If there was a question of the players not performing for Tuberville, the Bearcats have answered it and they are definitely playing for him.

Tuberville will draw upon his experience and likely get out of this slump, the future still looks bright despite recent tough times.
