Game 2: Comeback Kids Do It Again – Bolts Beat Devils 3-2

For the second consecutive game, the Tampa Bay Lightning came out flat and fell behind 2-0 thanks to goals by the Devils’ Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac. Three unanswered goals by Steven Stamkos, Alex Killorn and Valtteri Filppula led tje Bolts past the New Jersey Devils 3-2 at Amalie Arena.

Nine separate skaters made the score sheet for the Lightning, including rookie Brayden Point earned his first NHL point as he assisted on the Filppula goal. Ondrej Palat, Jonathan Drouin, Jason Garrison, Nikita Kucherov and Tyler Johnson also had assists in the game.

Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy, making his first start of the season, was shaky early but was solid down the stretch earning his first victory of the new season. He ended up stopping 32 of 34 shots highlighted by his rebound control.

According to beat writer Joe Smith, Steven Stamkos commented on Vasilevskiy’s late sprawling skate save on Beau Bennett: “My groin is sore just from watching the replay. A game saver.”

Two Bolts achieved career milestones in the game. Braydon Coburn played in his 700th NHL game and J.T. Brown skated in his 200th career game.
