DeAndre Levy happy he broke 'scumbag' Joe Paterno's leg

Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy spends his time off the field speaking out against domestic violence and sexual assault.

On the field, his proudest moment came in 2006 as a member of the Wisconsin Badgers against the Penn State Nittany Lions when he broke Joe Paterno’s leg.’s Michael Rothstein explained the situation and captured the quote:

Levy, who has taken on domestic violence and sexual assault as causes he is trying to fight, called Paterno a “dirtbag” for reportedly being aware of sexual abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky, Paterno’s former defensive coordinator.

“That dirtbag, man,” Levy told Men’s Journal. “We’ve gotta stop prioritizing sports over humanity. Just because somebody can throw a football or coach football, they’re excluded from their wicked acts.”

It’s a controversial quote for some, but Levy hasn’t shied away from his dislike for the former Penn State coach in the past. When not focusing on football, Levy has helped raise money for Detroit and helps test the city’s abandoned rape kits.

As he goes on to say in the interview, Levy won’t back down or give a false opinion on something simply because some might disagree with it. He’ll continue to use his status as a public figure to fight for his beliefs.
