Ravens defense ‘can’t wait’ to face Ezekiel Elliott, Cowboys

Washington Redskins v Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens’ top-ranked run defense will face Ezekiel Elliott and the NFL’s most productive rushing offense on Sunday.

And the Ravens can’t wait for the test.

“They’re the best and we’re the best, and somebody is going to come out on top,” Ravens defensive lineman Brandon Williams said, via ESPN. “Why wouldn’t you look forward to a game like this? We can’t wait.”

Opponents are only gaining 71.3 rushing yards per game against the Ravens in 2016, with back-to-back games with under 40 yards. But Baltimore hasn’t faced anything like Elliott and the Cowboys’ dominant run game.

In fact, the last time Elliott matched up with the league’s top run defense, the rookie running back shredded the Green Bay Packers for 157 rushing yards.

After nine games, Elliott leads the NFL with 1,005 rushing yards. He has five games over 100 yards, and he’s currently working on a seven-game stretch with at least 90 rushing yards. The overwhelming leader for Offensive Rookie of the Year produced 209 total yards and three touchdowns against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week.

The Ravens have allowed more than 100 rushing yards just twice in a game this season.

“It’s best on best. It doesn’t matter what school you came from,” Ravens defensive lineman Michael Pierce said. “For me and Brandon, we’re just trying to prove our worth. We want to show we’re one of the most dominant fronts in the league.”

There would be no better way for the Ravens to prove their worth up front than putting a stop to Elliott’s dominance. Williams and Pierce will get that opportunity on Sunday in Dallas.
