The unpredictability of sports is one of the main reasons that they are so intriguing to fans.  So, in the vein, The Hoops Manifesto will be tracking the biggest surprise NBA player this season – the player who (positively) deviated most from his norm and had a crazy good season.  This is the NBA Eye Opener of the Year.

Chris Paul – Los Angeles Clippers

17.9 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 8.6 apg, 3.0 spg (leads NBA), 31-70 3Pts, 4.4 WP (leads NBA)

It’s not supposed to go down like this.  Point guards aren’t supposed to get better as they near their 32nd birthday.  But Chris Paul is having none of that conventional wisdom.  Through the first 14 games this season, Paul is having a career year, dwarfing his already stellar career numbers up to this point.  And, no surprise, the Clippers are the top team in the NBA.  CP3 4 MVP?
