The Vegas Golden Knights are now in existence
LAS VEGAS, NV – NOVEMBER 22: Vegas Golden Knights apparel is displayed after it was announced as the name for the Las Vegas NHL franchise at T-Mobile Arena on November 22, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The team will begin play in the 2017-18 season. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

Tonight was the night that we learned what we will be calling the 31st team in the league. We knew that they would be in Las Vegas, and that they were owned by Black Knight Sports and Entertainment, so it seemed fairly logical that they would end up being called the Las Vegas Black Knights. So close!

Instead, the “Las” was dropped from the name and the color was switched from black to gold. This is the second time (after Carolina) that an abbreviated location name will be used for a team, and through history, the second time a team has been the Golden anything, after the Golden Seals. It’s pretty clear that the Golden Knights will seek to blaze their own trail, however, except for one thing. They will join other teams in the NHL to boo the hell out of Gary Bettman.
