Sammy Watkins seems ready to play Sunday

Buffalo Bills v New England Patriots

It looks like Sammy Watkins will return to action Sunday for the Bills when they host the Jaguars.

Watkins is officially listed as questionable, according to Pro Football Talk, but Bills coach Rex Ryan said Friday “I think he’s good to go.”

Watkins was placed on injured reserve-designated to return in September with a foot injury and began practicing again this week.

His return doesn’t come a moment too soon.

Robert Woods, the Bills’ leading receiver this season with 42 catches, isn’t likely to play Sunday because of a knee injury. Backup running back Mike Gillislee is out with a hamstring injury, which means that the Bills better hope that LeSean McCoy’s thumb doesn’t flare up. His thumb was dislocated Sunday and he had surgery on it that night, but he’s expected to play against Jacksonville.

Who knows if Watkins will even be up to speed, but it can’t hurt to put him out there because the Bills (5-5) are two games out of the last wild-card spot in the AFC and can’t afford to lose to the Jaguars.
