Report: Ryan Mathews ruled out vs. Packers with knee injury

Philadelphia Eagles v Seattle Seahawks

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without their leading rusher on Monday night against the Green Bay Packers.

Ryan Mathews has been ruled out with an MCL sprain in his right knee, Eagles coach Doug Pederson told reporters Saturday. Mathews suffered the injury on a red-zone run against the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday and did not practice all week. Pederson said there is a chance he could be out longer than just this week.

“There’s always that fear, especially with the knee. We just want to make sure that it’s 100 percent before we put him back out on the practice field,” Pederson said, via ESPN’s Tim McManus. “There is a concern that it could linger because now we will be coming off a Monday night game into a short week and going back on the road, so we’ve just got to find out next Wednesday where he’s at.”

Mathews being out means more work for Darren Sproles and rookie Wendell Smallwood, who has 118 rushing yards in his last two games.
