The 2017 Blogger Awards

PPLO

And now for the awards that really matter!

Ladies and gentlemen, the votes are in and counted. Big thanks to the 337 people who voted in the Second Annual Blogger Awards. Many of you also were nice enough to tell us why you voted the way you did. And we’re going to share a few of those comments.

I know you’re dying with anticipation, so let’s get right to it.

The Cam Talbot Award is the award for the busiest blogger. The nominees are Lowetide of Lowetide, Alex Thomas of The Oilers Rig, and Jonathan Willis of OilersNation. And the winner–with 78% of the vote–is Lowetide!

My wife doesn’t read Lowetide but if Allan doesn’t post new articles at 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM daily, she inherently knows something is very wrong in the world.–Bendelson

Lowetide is actually two people–he can’t possibly be producing this much all by his lonesome. And if you regularly read his blog you know this to be true. (He can’t possibly be arguing with himself, can he?)–Evilas

The Kris Russell Award is the award for the most polarizing blogger. The nominees are Robin Brownlee of OilersNation, Matt Henderson of OilersNation, and David Staples of Cult of Hockey. (The blogger with the most write-in votes was DSF of Dead Cat Bouncing.) And the winner–with 62.9% of the vote–is Matt Henderson!

Polarizing because he absolutely sucks, just like Yak City and Marincin!!!–anonymous

Enjoy your prize, Matt:

The 2017 Blogger Awards

The Mark Letestu Award is the award for the blogger who most excels in a special category of posts. The nominees are Bruce McCurdy for his game grades on Cult of Hockey, G Money for his post game reports on Oilers Nerd Alert, and WheatNOil for his tracking stats for defensemen on The Oilers Rig. (The blogger with the most write-in votes was Woodguy of Because Oilers.) And the winner–with 34.1% of the vote–is Bruce McCurdy!

Both his planetary and NHL knowledge is first rate.–Ravi

If you ask nicely, Bruce might give you a free astrological reading!

The MSM award is the award for the favourite member of the mainstream media. The nominees were Jason Gregor of TSN Radio, Gene Principe of Sportsnet, and Bob Stauffer of Oilers Now. (The MSMer with the most write-in votes was Bob McKenzie of TSN.) And the winner–with 36.5% of the vote–is Gene Principe!

Gregor has more solid analysis than Gene, but Gene is such a nice guy and does his job without obvious complaint. I give it to Mr. Pun.–anonymous

He wore a hot dog!–anonymous

The 2017 Blogger Awards

The BBF (Best Blogger Friend) Award is the award for the blogger you’d most want to watch an Oilers game with. Voters were able to name whomever they wanted. In no particular order, the top vote-getters were Baggedmilk of OilersNation, Lowetide of Lowetide, and Woodguy of Because Oilers. And the winner is Lowetide!

I think Woodguy probably has the best booze available.–anonymous

Really anyone other than Henderson. Guy would spend the whole game ripping on the players.–anonymous

I’d buy Lowetide a beer and then buy him another.–Evilas

The Brandon Davidson Award is the award for the person we’d most want to return to regular blogging. The nominees are Romulus’ Apotheosis, Michael Parkatti, and Scott Reynolds. (The person with the most write-in votes was DSF. For some reason he hasn’t blogged since the Oilers starting winning. Hmmm.) And the winner–with 32.1% of the vote–is Michael Parkatti!

Always insightful, really missed. Also, I dressed better when he was telling us what to wear.–anonymous

All of you, please come back!

The Spreadsheet Award is the award for our favourite fancy stats blogger. The nominees are Sunil Agnihotri of Copper & Blue, G Money of Oilers Nerd Alert, and Woodguy of Because Oilers. And the winner–with 69.1% of the vote–is Woodguy!

Woodguy is awesome without being a complete d***. Explains things well.–anonymous

The Connor McDavid Award is the award for the most valuable blogger. The nominees are Lowetide of Lowetide, Jonathan Willis of OilersNation, and Woodguy of Because Oilers. And the winner–with 81.3% of the vote–is (surprise!) Lowetide!

He is the catalyst that has inspired many current bloggers to blog and his place always has the welcome mat out. It is not unlike the public place in ancient Athens where all the philosophers would hang out to philosophize and stuff. He is the unofficial Edmonton Oilers “Blogfather”–Evilas

Lowetide is a staple.–anonymous

So Staples is the other guy who writes and argues with Lowetide? It’s all beginning to make sense now.

Thanks again to all who voted! And big news for next year: The 2018 Blogger Awards will be on live TV, with the show produced by TBA! (I think only Lowetide will get that joke.)
