Jeremy Clements Finally Wins A Race

The Xfinity drivers were back to Road America for the final road course race of the year.  Qualifying for the event got rained out putting Austin Cindric in the #22 car and James Davison in the #20 car on the front row for the event.

The race started off with an early caution on lap four as Scott Lagasee Jr. spun out into the gravel attempt to get seventh place and could not get the car moving again.  As the race continued James Davison was leading more laps and took the stage one win.  The leaders pit and James won the race off pit road with a very lengthy pit stop for Austin Cindric.   James though did pick up a speeding penalty on pit road and had to go to the back of the field.

The second stage had Elliott Sadler leading some laps and the Daniel Hemric getting to lead some laps and winning the second stage.   The last lap though saw some major action as Justin Marks made a bold move to pass a couple cars.  He made the pass, but Ross Chastain wound up hitting him and getting him loose sending him in the James Davison car and damaging the front of his car.

During the caution time rain popped up in the area of the race track.

As the race continued Daniel Hemric was back leading laps.  Then Ben Kennedy got to the lead of the race.  The long green flag run continued long enough cars were making green flag pit stops.  Daniel Hemric picked up a speeding penalty while on pit road.  Jeremy Clements got to lead a bunch of laps under this time period and finally pits with nine laps to go.  This put Michael Annett in the race lead for one lap and he pits.  Matt Tifft then had the race lead.  Jeremy Clements and his fresher tires started to pull in the leader.  With 4 laps left Tim Cowen went off road and took a long time just to get going again to not bring out the caution.  With 2 laps left Jeremy was right behind Matt for the race lead.  At the end of the lap  Jeremy and Matt hit each other, spin out, and Jeremy was able to get it going first and take the race lead with Matt Tifft able to keep second, but in the end fell back to third place.  Jeremy had a such a big lead he was able to easily pick off his first Xfinity win ever.

“I’m just shocked,” said Jeremy Clements.   He also stated that he got in the corner hot and that it was his fault.

“Tough to come that close,’ said Matt Tifft.
