Sox Get Swept By Orioles, Even with Fister’s Strong Start

The Red Sox were in the midst of a mini skid and hoped for a win on Sunday to avoid a sweep by the O’s.   The Sox had Doug Fister on the mound vs. former Sox Wade Miley.  Fister pitched well, but the two runs he gave up to start the game would end up being all it took for the O’s to get the victory.

Fister ended up giving up 2 runs in the top of the 1st.   Those would end up being the only runs he gave up in his outing.   Fister gave up an RBI double to Jones and then an RBI ground rule double to Mancini.  Sox 0-2.  The problem was that the O’s didn’t give up any runs until the bottom of the 6th.   Devers hit an RBI double to bring Bogaerts to the plate.   Sox 1-2.

Fister pitched through 7 innings, but would still end up with the loss.  Addison Reed pitched a scoreless 8th inning and Kimbrel pitched a scoreless 9th.   The Sox had chances to score in the 7th and 8th innings, but they weren’t able to get the tying run to cross the plate.
