Sox Squeak By Jays to Halt Losing Streak

The Red Sox had lost 4 games in a row and it felt like they might never win again when they went down 0-2 in the first inning with Pomeranz on the mound.   The Sox and Jays went back and forth, but then the Sox bats exploded with 4 runs in the 7th inning to give the Sox the lead for good.   The Jays tried to rally against Kimbrel, but he held on and the Sox won 6-5.

The Jays got going early against Pomeranz.   Pomeranz started the game by giving up a 2 run RBI double to Morales to once again put the Sox in an early hole.   Sox 0-2.  The Sox got one of those runs right back in the top of the 2nd when Ramirez scored by way of a throwing error from Jays catcher Lopez.  Sox 1-2.   The Sox tied it up in the 3rd when Nunez hit a lead off homer off of Stroman.  Sox 2-2.   The Jays didn’t take long snagging the lead back though when Goins hit an RBI single off of Pomeranz.   Sox 2-3.   Pomeranz stayed in the game until the bottom of the 6th.   He pitched well, but if the Sox didn’t score for him in the top of the 7th, he’d be in line for the loss.

However, that is exactly what the Sox bats did.   They scored 4 times in the top of the 7th to put the Sox out in front.  Vazquez hit a 2 run homer to put the Sox out in front.  Vazquez was a hitting machine last night as he went 4 for 4 and his average is knocking on 300’s door.  The Sox weren’t done yet though as Moreland hits an RBI single and then with the bases loaded Bogaerts walks to force in another run.   Sox 6-3.  Addison Reed comes out of the pen and pitches a scoreless 7th inning followed by Brandon Workman who pitches a scoreless 8th.   The Sox were sporting a 3 run lead when Craig Kimbrel came to the mound in the 9th.   Kimbrel needed every single one of those insurance runs when he gave up a 2 run homer to Smoak to suddenly have the Sox only up by one run.   Kimbrel walked Bautista to have everyone in Red Sox Nation on pins and needles, but then put the game away when he got Morales to pop out to end the game.
