Sox Rally To Sweep Reds!

The Red Sox had a final game with the Reds and were looking for the sweep.   The Sox had Doug Fister on the mound vs. Jackson Stephens for the Reds.   Fister didn’t have the best outing and gave up the lead early, but kept the Sox within striking distance.   Mookie Betts took the team on his back in the 7th and the Sox had the lead for good.  The Yankees lost last night, so the Magic Number is now 3.

The Reds got on the board in the 1st to have an early lead.  Fister gave up an RBI double to Gennett.  Sox 0-1.  The game stayed that way until the top of the 5th when the Sox tied it up with a solo home run from Rafael Devers.  Sox 1-1.  The Reds took the lead right back in the bottom of the inning when Stephens hit an RBI single and then Hamilton hit an RBI triple.   Sox 1-3.  Fister went back out for the 6th inning, but with 2 on and only one out, Farrell went out to get him.  Abad came in to finish off the inning and was able to get the two outs to close out the inning.  Fister didn’t pitch horribly, but I am sure not he made the case to be in the rotation come October.

Brandon Workman came out for the 7th inning and some poor defense gave the Reds their 4th run of the game.   The Sox caught Hamilton trying to steal, but they threw the ball away in a run down.   When the Sox had a hard time getting the ball back into the infield, Hamilton ran all the way home from 1st.  Robby Scott came in to finish off the inning, but the damage was already done.   Sox 1-4.  In the bottom of the 7th, the game took a dramatic turn all due to Mookie Betts.  Betts came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a bases clearing double to tie the game.   Then Devers hit a single and Betts booked his way to the plate to score the go ahead run.  Sox 5-4.  The Sox suddenly had life and just needed their bullpen to lock it down.   Addison Reed pitched a scoreless 8th inning and then Craig Kimbrel scored his usual, scoreless 9th inning.   The Sox swept the Reds and have won their 7th straight game.
