Sox Drop Game 2: On The Verge of Elimination

The Red Sox already lost the first game of the series with the Astros, so they hoped that Drew Pomeranz could take the mound and right the ship.   Pomeranz didn’t make it out of the 3rd inning and for a 2nd night in a row, the Astros scored 8 runs off of Sox pitching.   The Sox weren’t able to make up for that damage and are headed back to Boston down 0-2 in a best of 5 series.

The Astros got on the board in the bottom of the 1st when Pomeranz gave up a 2 run homer to Correa.   Sox 0-2.  The Sox got one of those runs back in the top of the 2nd when Jackie Bradley Jr. hit an RBI single to score Young.  Sox 1-2.  Pomeranz pitched a scoreless 2nd, but then found trouble again in the 3rd.  Pomeranz gave up a lead off homer to Springer and then an RBI single to Altuve.   Sox 1-4.  Farrell went out to get him in favor of Carson Smith.   Unfortunately, Smith wasn’t able to finish off the inning as he walked two batters to load the bases.   Smith was done and David Price was in the game.   Price worked his magic and got the two outs he needed without allowing the Astros to score.

Price went back out and pitched two more scoreless inning.   Price has been a bright spot in a pretty lackluster ALDS series.  Eduardo Rodriguez went out for the 6th inning and wasn’t able to record an out.  ERod gave up a single and then hit a batter before being replaced by Addison Reed.  Reed had a poor outing and allowed 4 runs to score.   Gonzalez scored by way of an error from Mookie Betts and then Reed gave up a 2 run RBI double to Correa and an RBI single to Gattis.  Sox 1-8.  Austin Maddox came out for the 7th and pitched a scoreless frame.  Craig Kimbrel came out for the 8th because he needed the work.   Kimbrel pitched a scoreless inning and then the game was on to the top of the 9th.   The Sox were able to scrap together one more run when Bradley Jr. hit an RBI single, but the Astros were still winning by six runs.   The Sox scored two runs yesterday, both by way of RBI from JBJ.   If the rest of the Sox offense doesn’t get into gear, this series will be over by the end of the day on Sunday.
