Patrick Sharp continued to be a stable contributor for his team in 2015-16, despite that team becoming the Dallas Stars instead of the Chicago Blackhawks. He played in 60+ games in 9 of the 10 seasons from 2006 onward, but he will be unlikely to match that total this season. He has already missed 14 games due to a concussion suffered in the 4th game of the year.

Now, he has been placed on the injured reserve again, thanks to concussion symptoms. It isn’t clear whether or not this is because of a fresh hit or because of a recurrence in symptoms after his last hit. One way or another, it’s a troubling sign for Sharp, not only for this season, but going forward. Head injuries are a murky business, and a recurrence of them only dims the outlook for Sharp. The Stars should have been able to count on their veteran leader for a few more years, and at least for many more games this year, but now, it’s all up in the air.
