Pre Camp Bills Position Review by @rdotdeuce – Defensive Line

The Starters: Kyle Williams, Marcell Dareus, Adolphus Washington.

The Backup(s): Corbin Bryant, Jerel Worthy, Leger Douzable, Justin Zimmer, TJ Barnes.

The Skinny: A year after being a part of one of the most sack happy teams in the NFL, the Bills 2015 season defensively was an exercise in blame game. Coaches claimed players didn’t “buy in” so off goes Mario Williams, leader of the pack in voicing (valid) concerns with the Ryan defense as it was played.

Marcell Dareus, Mario’s tag partner in the 100 million dollar lineman club also expressed the concerns, but because of his age and potential cornerstone status on the team, he was left out of the PR whitewashing of the current off-season. Kyle Williams looks to bounce back from his 2015 injuries and rookie Adolphus Washington seems to be a key component in that. Should Washington live up to the starter moniker Rex has bestowed on him, that will allow a renaissance for the former 5th rounder from LSU.

Corbin Bryant is another player with an opportunity to cement his status on the team with a strong camp. Given his girth and his work spelling Dareus and Williams last season, he was afforded an opportunity to showcase his skills, which were formidable in their own regard.

Who’s Safe: The starting trio, despite Kyle Williams going into camp recovering, is safe. Ditto Corbin Bryant. After that, the lineup will be determined by how well the space eaters (Douzable and Barnes) eat space and how well the “penetrators” (Zimmer, Worthy) penetrate during camp/pre-season. The depth will be needed to allow Kyle Williams to have a second lease on life career-wise, or they risk burning the Bills stalwart out.

Up Next: Linebackers
