#TribeTopThree 9/02 Kluber tames Motor City Kitties

Cleveland -5
Detroit -2

Short and Sweet:

The Indians bats have been unstoppable as of late and the trend continues here tonight against the lowly Tigers. An RBI triple by Jose Ramirez opens the scoring floodgates followed by consecutive singles by Edwin Encarnacion and Abraham Almonte as the Indians take a 4-0 lead. They also have recorded eight hits in just two innings of play meanwhile Corey Kluber is on the mound tonight for the Tribe. Those four runs have given Kluber the scoring he needs to really maintain the depleted Detroit lineup who is without Miguel Cabrera as he aims to be named CY Young this year. Yan Gomes and Giovanny Urshela hit back to back singles in the top of the third inning with two outs as that is already Cleveland’s tenth hit against Jordan Zimmermann.

Bryan Holaday gets the second hit of the game, a two base knock for the Tigers in the bottom of the third frame as they look to avoid the shutout. Kluber finally gets tested as two singles have baserunners on the corners with only one out. Mikie Mahtook strikes out swinging for the second out of the inning as the Indians are one out away from avoiding a big jam and they do just that as a groundout ends the frame keeping the shutout intact. The lead extended to 5-0 after doubles by Lonnie Chisenhall and Almonte in the fifth. Mahtook doubles in the bottom half and Holaday brings him home via RBI single and the score is now 5-1. Jose Iglesias brings home another run for the Tigers and now it is 5-2.
