Day 2: Cap Conversation & The Friday Links

Day 2 of the LaRussa cap debate rages on.

On Thursday, the Baseball Hall of Fame announced that TLR would not have a team logo on his HoF plaque when he is enshrined as a member this summer. Instead, he is choosing to honor all three teams he managed for equally.

Today, Cardinals owner and chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. – who was one of the people responsible for approval of forgoing the mandatory 5 year waiting period AND approved LaRussa's number being retired – was asked for his thoughts.

"You ask if I was surprised? Yes, I was surprised."

"You ask if I was disappointed? Well, yes, I was a little disappointed" he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. In fact, he even went so far as to call LaRussa and get clarification and tell him that he'd like his former employee to go into the HoF as a Cardinal before the announcement was made.

No dice.

Again, it's LaRussa's decision. He's free to make it as he chooses. But at the same time, the fact that only 1 of the 3 teams he managed has retired his number and only 1 of 3 owners he worked for directly said he would like him to be a H0F member?

Well, DeWitt says it best. I think we're all a bit disappointed.

Just like TLR was a pioneer in so many facets of the game, I can't help but think he's started a new trend where future Hall of Famers (who a vast majority most won't spend their careers on one team) choose to represent themselves and not a team. Even if you can make a strong case for them.

Innovating until the end. Oh, and go ahead and bookmark all these stories now for when Pujols decides to go in the HoF as an Angel.

Now, The Friday Links…

That's it. That's the week. It's supposed to get above 30 degrees in St. Louis, so make sure to find your closest friend that works at Ameren and have them take you out for a drink. You could use a night out and they are certain to be getting a big winter bonus come spring, right? (That electric bill!)
