Game 108: OMFG. Are You Serious Right Now?

I. Can’t. EVEN.

So now Wainwright is awful? We’ve come to expect the limp bats, but Wain-O got shelled in the biggest game of the year so far. And that’s 2 shellacking’s since his All-Star Game brouhaha.

But what really is galling is Mike Matheny’s quotes to Rick Hummel of the Post-Dispatch:

“It’s not the first time that’s happened to us, when we’ve seen something,” said Matheny, his blood beginning to boil. “Sooner or later, the system has to allow us to say something.

“If they’re not going to give me the headset to yell at that guy (in New York), then it’s going to have to be somebody on the field. I think we’ve got to the point where we’ve taken a lot of the emotion out of the game where you can’t even say anything to these guys without getting tossed out of the game.

“We’ve got to be able to go out and fight for our guys and fight for what’s right. What I saw was wrong, to go along with the balk, too,” although Matheny added, “I believe in the process even though we haven’t benefited from it at all.”

If you didn’t already surmise, Matheny is still chapped from what he thought was a blown call. The replay was close and the umpires were instructed to let the call stand.

He’s arguing that video replay system – which is completely arbitrary – is screwing the Cardinals? I’m only half kidding when I ask if anyone has fully explained what a replay system is to Mr. Matheny.

Is it me? Or is this insane?

But it seems that the crux of his beef is that he just can’t go out and yell and hoot and holler like the good old days. That independent video replay had rid the game of “fight(ing) for what’s right”.

What’s going on with this team, friends? Seriously. WTF.

The Cardinals still have a chance to win this series, but now they’re in serious danger of falling into a insurmountable hole. Meanwhile Matheny is off in a corner, fiddling while Busch burns.
