Game 29: Cardinals Face The Backup Catcher Moonlighting As A Pitcher

There aren’t many sure things in the sports world.

But when the other team puts a position player on the mound, you know that it’s been a good day at the office.

So when Martin Maldanado took to the bump, the Cardinals had salvaged a win in this series with a 9 run outburst on get-away day.

The Cardinals now have an off-day before heading to Chicago to face the Cubs Friday afternoon, starting a 9-game road trip that will take them to Atlanta and Pittsburgh.

They also raised their season record to over .500 (15-14) and moved to 5.5 back of the Brewers.

How about some more good news on a Wednesday afternoon? Allen Craig had a monster day at the plate, going 4-5 with 3 RBIs. Jon Jay was 3-4 with 2 runs scored. And overall the Cards were 13-38 (.342 avg).

Shelby Miller picked up the W after working 6 innings and surrendering 3 runs.

Game 29 won’t go down in the annals of history as anything more than a nice middle of the week, middle of the day win for the Cardinals to end April.

It’s on to May.

Let’s hope the the way they went out is the way they’ll come back in.
