Game 91: The Force Is Now With The Cardinals?

Last night was Star Wars night at Busch Stadium. Hence Chewbacca up there hurling out the first pitch.

If you watched the game on ESPN, you might of noticed the whole production going HAM on the Star Wars theme. And if you felt like it was very corporate synergy-ish, you’d be right:

Lucasfilm is owned by The Walt Disney Company. ESPN is 80 percent owned by ABC, Inc., an indirect subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company.
If you want to read the biggest Hollywood Reporter article about a a silly theme night in the middle of the baseball season, here’s your chance.

None of it seemed to distract the Cardinals from winning their 3rd straight game (6 of 8) and pulling within 2 games of the Brewers for 1st place in the NL Central.

In fact, the game was one of the more by the book wins of the season. 6.2 innings from Lance Lynn surrendering only 2 earned runs. A LOOGY out from Randy Choate. A solid inning from Seth Maness. A save from Rosenthal. And the top of the Cardinals order producing 9 hits and 3 RBIs.

But, since this hasn’t been an easy season for the Cardinals, something bad had to happen.

Yadier Molina exited the game early with a sprained right thumb. He’s already underwent an MRI and the length of his absence should be known later this PM.

The Cardinals go for the sweep of the Pirates tonight.
