Hot Streak Leads Monday Ramblin’s…

The Cardinals will have to go 13-3 in their next 16 games while the Braves will have to go 8-7 for a one-game playoff to be forced. Yes, they just  got done sweeping the Braves. Yes, stranger things have happened in baseball. Yes, the Cardinals are on their first 5 game winning streak of the year. Yes, the Cardinals are headed to Pittsburgh to face a fading Pirates team.  BUT – that’s too tall of an order with a quarter of the games left against the mighty Phillies…

Real shame, too. The Cardinals pissed away so many games in 2011 (we each could probably name 5 off the top of our head and neither list would overlap) that this season is more of a waste than the previous 5. Everything from blind loyalty to Ryan Franklin to keeping Theriot at SS too long has nicked the Cardinals along the summer. And now, here they stand a few games back with not enough real estate to make it truly interesting. So frustrating…

Rams: Much more on these guys on SB Nation STL later this week. But needless to say, that couldn’t have gone worse. Not only did they get their pants pulled down on the scoreboard, but pretty much every name player on the roster is now going to be on the injury report headed into Monday night on the road against the Giants…

Is it hockey season yet?…

The fact that Pujols is seriously making at run at .300/30/100 again is more impressive than we’re giving him credit for. If he does this – and at this point, it’s not a long-shot, but not a gimme either – I think we better just build a statue bigger than Stan Musial right now. Part of me wonders when Pujols goes – be it this off-season or 10 years from now, if we’ll ever be able to watch a baseball game again and not stay stuff like “Pujols would have done that” or “Pujols always did this”…

Worse for the Rams, after Week 1, is that this schedule looks to be the most difficult in football. Baltimore crushed Pittsburgh, while Green Bay and New Orleans’ duel on Thursday night proved both should be in the mix for the NFC Championship.  They also get the Giants home opener and a Washington team that’s much improved. The Cowboys, while losers to the Jets Sunday night, aren’t shabby either. Yikes…

I decided to use a strategy where late in my fantasy football drafts, I’d use a later round pick to get the best kicker possible so I could have a guy nail me 8-10 points every week and not have to worry about match-ups and or their probability of playing.  Now, I understood that each time, taking a kicker in the 10-11 round range was going to get me shit on. And it did. But when that said kicker goes ahead and blows out his ACL on the opening kickoff of the season and sends me back to waiver wire? Well that’s a sign that this strategy was not well played. At all…
