This was supposed to be a slog. A brutal month we hoped we hoped would end with a playoff berth.
It still might be, but as of September 4th, the Cardinals have opened up a 3 game lead in the NL Central, not only passing the Brewers, but putting a 3 game sweep on the 3rd place Pirates.
The Birds are still on pace to win the division by 30 games.
[mlbvideo id=”35920755″ width=”650″ height=”324″ /]The Brewers have just collapsed. They’re in a free fall that is hard to fathom for a team that spent all but the past 3 days in first place. And with a 4 game set with the Cardinals set for tomorrow and this weekend… it’s do or die time for the Brewers season.
I can’t even believe that I’m typing that.
It’s going to take more than a 5 game winning streak for most of Cardinals Nation to truly believe that this highly touted team has finally turned the corner.
But whereas a split a week ago would have been a missed opportunity, this week it’d be more than a serviceable outcome.
Baseball.
It’s never not interesting.
