The Cardinals Are Now In 1st Place

The Cardinals are 5-5 in their last 10 games.

On the season, they have a negative 6 run differential, are 3 games under .500 on the road and are tied for the 3rd fewest overall runs scored on the season.

Oh, and for the first time this season, they’re also in 1st place alone atop the NL Central!

Sunday couldn’t have broke any better for the Birds.

A nice comeback win against the Pirates had the double plus of not only vaulting the Cards ahead of the Brewers (who lost to the Cubs), but pushing the Pirates back to a place where they’ll for sure leave St. Louis behind the Cardinals.

The Brewers have lost 6 in a row and the Cardinals have won 3 consecutively. Through 137 games, the Cardinals finally have got to where many expected them to be perched all year long.

Has it been pretty? Not really.

Fun? Not really.

But the possibility of October baseball is alive as the final 4 weeks of the season unfold. Let’s all take a few minutes to appreciate the day.

Because there’s about a 99.9% chance this team somehow screws this up tomorrow.

For now, though? First. Freaking. Place.
