The Cardinals Have Turned Into Little Brother

132 down.

30 to go.

The Cardinals curled up into the fetal position and wept through the past two Pittsburgh nights. But since they take up residence in the NL Central, all is well. They lost no ground and still remain 1.5 games in arrears of the Brewers.

I have no proof, but I believe the Cardinals have been exactly 1-3 games behind the Brewers 98% of the season.

When the Birds are hot, the Brewers are hot. When the Cardinals put their bats away and pout, the Brewers decide they don’t want to play baseball either.

We can parse out the Adam Wainwright start all we want (not his best effort, not a bad effort in comparison to recent starts, we expect more from the ace, et al.), but at the end of the day I’m just not sure this race isn’t going to go down to the last week of the season no matter what.

In fact, there is a 99.9% chance that either the Brewers or Cardinals don’t sweep the Sept 4-7 series next weekend. It will be 2-2. Book it now. All the hype that’s going to precede the series is going to end in a stalemate.

Can’t wait.

I wanted to get pissed about the Pirates series on the heels of their previous dud in Philly. But I can’t. Because it doesn’t seem to matter. The Cardinals are 1.5 games back of the Brewers and probably will be for the next month.

Prove me wrong, Redbirds.

Prove me wrong.
