The Oscar Taveras Show Part I: FIN

Corp

Oscar Taveras has been optioned to AAA Memphis today to make room for Matt Adams on the active roster.

Taveras was called up on 05/31 as a panacea for the Cardinals struggling offense. He was batting .325 in Memphis with a.373 OBP and .897 OPS. He’d driven in 40 with 7 HRs and 15 doubles. And his ascension into The Bigs was not only welcome, it was needed.

His second at bat? THIS.

After that, though? Things got a bit rough. He only had 6 more hits and only 1 of those 6 went for more than a single. He only had 2 BBs and a pretty anemic .225 OBP. His average currently stands at .189.

The Cardinals are only 4-6 over the last 10 games (3-1 in the last 4), so his arrival didn’t do much for the Cardinals one way or another in terms of team results. And he was probably getting more frustrated as the games went by where he didn’t have an impact.

But hey, the defense… not to shabby!

As painful as it is to see a guy that’s super-talented go back to the minors, it’s probably best for everyone involved at this point.

Let’s hope Oscar can get on a roll and get back to STL before the season is over.
