Yadier Molina Out 8-12 Weeks With Mangled Thumb Ligament

Chelsea

Yadier Molina is the best catcher in baseball.

And he won’t be playing for the next 8-12 weeks because of that stupid dirt next to that stupid third base at stupid Busch Stadium.

I mean, out off all the things to bring the down the iron man of backstops, it’s a feet first slide that injures a thumb ligament?

According to research of Mike Axisa (link above), Molina started a minimum of 128 games at catcher for the Cardinals from 2009-13. The 1,083 games played at catcher since 2006 leads MLB. However, this will be his 2nd DL stint in the past 2 years.

Obligatory posting of a Tweet I thought was clever, authored by me, intended to incite panic, which it did, for myself… :

Molina always seems to bounce back sooner than we expect. That being said, this isn’t an injury he can grit his way through. The Cardinals are going to need to make a move for the next couple of months.

Time to step it up Tony Cruz! Please don’t make us endure the A.J. Experience!!!
