Jags sell out Thursday game

Tip to Oehser.  A Festivus Miracle.  Those Jags and their feats of strength!

Thursday night’s game will include a party and festivities beginning at 4 p.m outside Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. The city is spending about $150,000 on the festivities, which is being labeled the “ultimate tealgate party.”

Mayor John Peyton defended the expense, saying “it’s going to take investment,” to reinvigorate ticket sales. The Jaguars, who are 7-6 and battling for a playoff spot, lost 17,000 season ticket holders after last year.

“Hopefully, this will be a kickoff for selling tickets for next year and beyond,” Peyton said.

The Jaguars had their first seven regular season games blacked out this season. The team still has some tickets available for Thursday night’s game against unbeaten Indianapolis, but has sold more than 51,000 non-premium seats, the threshold needed to lift the blackout.
