NFL Draft Day Two

In round three the Colts selected Jerraud Powers, CB, Auburn with the 92nd pick.  Powers is 5′ 10″ and 192 lbs.  He was third team All-SEC in 2008, starting 10 games and totaling 47 tackles. He intercepted two passes and broke up seven.

In round four the Colts select Austin Collie, a WR from BYU.  This guy won’t see the field for serious action for at least a year (I hope).  Sounds like a potential third receiver/slot guy.  He’s just a junior, so he has time to develop.  This is a project pick, not a play now guy.

Also in round four (the 36th pick), the Colts take Terrance Taylor, another DT, this time of Michigan.  Here’s that ‘fifth round’ type of value Polian was talking about.  Scouts Inc had him rated much higher than he went.  Again, it seems like the Colts brass was as sick of seeing 3rd and 1 on D as the rest of us were.  Ain’t no one complaining about this pick.  A DT can play this year (as we have seen).

Barring a trade, the Colts have no fifth round pick.

In round 6, the Sorgi watch is on as the Colts take Purdue QB Curtis Painter.  Demond will not be happy about this.

In round 7, first the Colts trade next year’s 6th to take a punter, Patrck Mcaffe from West Virginia.  I’m really glad that came through.  I was going to feel silly if we never took a punter.  Still one pick left.

And it’s a guard Jaimie Thomas out of Maryland.  Gotta love the late draft offensive linemen.  They always have a chance to make the team, and often end up as players down the line.
