66. Buffalo Sabres at Boston Bruins. Don’t Look Now But The Sabres Are In The Hunt

BOSBUF
Dont’ look now folks, but Buffalo is contending for a playoff spot. Two weeks ago they were basically dead to rights and now they’re 2 points out of the 8th spot. That’s a big jump considering that Buffalo went from potentially being the best team in the division, to getting injured and falling down the standings quicker than an old woman whose walker was kicked out from underneath her, to catching fire and playing some pretty damn good hockey.

And it sucks because I’m supposed to hate Buffalo.

Make no bones about it, Days of Y’Orr hates the Sabres.  Like we really hate them. There’s so many reasons to hate Buffalo that we don’t really know where to start. If we could, we’d run them over and wouldn’t even give two fucks about it. No tissues to wipe away their smelly chicken wing tears, no wambulance. Nothing. Sorry (we’re not sorry).

It’s not even just us hating Buffalo from our mom’s basements. Real people actually hate them too

But when they’re playing hockey the way they’re playing hockey right now, it’s tough to hate on them. Everyone who is a DOY regular knows that I can troll like a mother fucker, but I tell it like it is. Since February 1, 2012 the Sabres record is 10-4-3. In a little under a month and a half, the Sabres have accrued 23 points and like I mentioned earlier sit 2 points out of the final playoff spot. That’s not luck. Take their game last night against Carolina. Buffalo fired 45 shots on net at Cam Ward and got a beautiful power play goal by Jason Pomenville to win it.

They’re getting good goaltending from Ryan Miller, their secondary scoring is stepping up and they are capitalizing on opportunites. Basically they are doing everything the Bruins aren’t doing. Boston’s goaltending is shakier than Michael J Fox in an earthquake, their defense is so shitty that Kony wouldn’t want them in his armies and the scoring is scattered worse than a schizophrenic at war with its personalities. Yes, the Bruins are beaten up like their baby’s daddy is Ike Turner:

Nathan Horton, Rich Peverley, Beniot Pouliot, Dan Paille, Andrew Ference, Tuukka Rask and Marc Savard are all injured. I’m not sure if Paille or Ference are back tonight as they both missed the game on Tuesday against Toronto. Beniot Pouliot also left that game with a “lower body injury”. The bruins injuries are starting to pile up and there’s not much talent in Providence to replace some of these guys.

The good thing is that it seems Jordan Caron has finally figured out how to play hockey. The past two games seem like they’re a coming out party for the youngster. In his last 2 games, Caron has recorded 3 goals and 2 assists. He’s also a +5, if that’s something you care about. It’s about the numbers though, it’s about how he’s getting those numbers. Caron is capitalizing on opportunities. He’s skating hard to the net, protecting the puck well and he’s putting himself in position to get shit done.

With the way Boston has played the past two games (despite a loss to the Rangers) and with the way Buffalo has played the past two months (including a 6-0 fisting of Boston in Buffalo), I would expect another good hockey game. We got it when the Bruins lost 2-1 in a shootout to Buffalo two weeks ago and I think we’ll get it tonight.

My only concern is which Tim Thomas shows up.
