Bruins show Johnny Boychuk some love, re-signs for 3 years

Johnny Boychuk re-signs with Boston Bruins
Johnny Boychuk fans rejoice
. He has agreed to a three year extension, according to TSN’s Bob MacKenzie.

Boychuk is making $1.875 million this season, according to CapGeek.com. Click here for his contract history. The new deal will make Boychuk the second highest paid defenseman on the team. Ference will make $2.250 million and Seidenberg $3.250 million. Chara obviously leads the blueline contract charge.

The contract is a bit high for a guy who has only 10 points this season and 31 points the last two. But he’s a solid defenseman who’ll throw his weight around, is a former Eddie Shore winner and is a lifetime +49 plus/minus with the Bruins.

The only thing harder than his hits are his slapshots. If he could just get a few more of those on net he’d be golden. He should spend a summer with Chara to work on that.

Chiarelli is clearly hoping Boychuk can raise his game to that of when he scored 65 points for Providence. We like Boychuk. We just hope he’ll earn his paycheck. Like Pizz said, it’s going to sound like a cash register everytime he lays a hit.

Cha-ching!

Of course, this makes you wonder who Chiarelli will trade come deadline (if he makes any moves). He says he wants to upgrade a forward and defensemen without giving up much, but life doesn’t work the way we planned. Someone will have to go. If it’s McQuaid we’ll cry. If it’s Corvo, Pouliot or Kampfer we probably won’t.

Also, somewhere Tuukka Rask is cursing in Finnish, wondering where his new contract is.
