SECOND LOOK: Daugavins’ SO Attempt & Thornton’s Choice Words

Shootouts are an NHL gimmick so if you're pissed at what Kaspar Daugavins did last night than, well, we don't know what to tell you. Here's his crazy move.

It's a high risk, high reward maneuver. He nails it and Ottawa is singing songs of his grandeur. He fails and he looks like a giant chump who wasted a chance to win a game for his team. Thank god he didn't land that shot, though. We'd never hear the end of it. Of course, this isn't the first time Kaspar has tried his "backhand" attempt. It worked in the AHL.

Of course now he can never do this move again unless he can find some varients to fuck with goalies. As long as the goalies can keep their pads flat on the ice it's not going in. It's cute. It's flashy. It almost worked on Tuukka but the mechanics of it make it easy to stop. And yes, he has done normal shots in the shootout. He's also done chicken dances.

But no need to get pissed at the guy for trying it. Again, the shootout is a gimmick so let the trick shots fly, boys.

Shawn Thornton, however, had some fun words on what he saw.

For the viewing impaired:

“Something we had never seen before,” Thornton said with a laugh. “That takes a … takes a lot of sack to do that, so I guess give him credit.”

“It almost went in,” Thornton, who himself scored the Bruins’ second goal earlier in the night, added. “I don’t think Tuukka saw it before, either. None of our guys have ever tried it in practice. It’s one of those things where if it works, you’re the talk of the town. If it doesn’t, then it doesn’t really look as good.”

And Shawn Thornton knows a thing or two about penalty shots and shoot outs.
