Who had a dumber penalty — John Scott or Dougie Hamilton?

Hooking. Fighting. Tripping. Cross-checking. Those penatlies we see regularly in the NHL, but sometimes you run into a penalty so rare and bizzarre that we're amazed that the NHL refs even call them.

Take example Mr. Douglas Hamitlon. He was just coming out of the box when a pass came his way. He was enthused — maybe a little too enthused — as he didn't even wait to step on the ice to play the puck.

Two minutes for interference. You can only pull that off if you're on San Jose against the Kings, Dougie.

Sharks’ Ryane Clowe receives no supplemental discipline for playing puck from bench vs. Kings

Then there's good ol' goon, John Scott. When not trying to fight Phil Kessel or elbowing guys in the head, he's desperately trying to score. He got one goal this year — his first since the death of the dinosaurs — and he got bit by the bug. Now he's doing anything he can to put the puck in the net… even if it's unconventional.

That's two-minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct, you oaf.

So who had the dumber penalty last night? Dougie Hamilton or John Scott?
