Eagles fans react to DJax franchise tag…and a Bri-coastal assault on bad posting…

It was a great day for the Taming of the Shrew… (subtitle: beware the Ides of March!)…

Most Philly fans got their wish for the franchise tagging of wide receiver and diva extraordinaire DeSean Jackson… and Brizer 12.0 (upgraded from his previous 9.0 version) successfully led an invasion and liberation of the colonial posting compound at PE.com’s “On The Inside”, where Dave Spadaro’s beleaguered stragglers were stifled by a year-long acute lack of enlightenment and entertainment…

In a rare display of solidarity, political rivals Brizer and ATV joined forces to invade PE.com and bombard the site with football logic and intelligence…Here we see Brizer and ATV in concert, jointly escorting Dave Spadaro and the innocent “French Lady Fan” Nathalie to safety, before opening fire on the flame-throwers still resisting in the OTI bunkers…

It was a wonderful thing to watch…first Brizer’s calculated exit under the pretense of his displeasure with Eagles Eye’s damnable wide-screen irregularities… and his subsequent flight under the radar into the flame-throwers’ domain, reminiscent of the fabulous Israeli Raid at Entebbe…

He enlisted the help of many of the faithful who were ousted almost a year ago from the former sanctuary of Eagles fan-posting standards—guys like ATV, Jerky, Boner, Hamhox (aka Brozer), Dutch Rubb, Don Pardo, Kenemeka, and yes…even the great formerly fat now svelte but still an NCAA champion JB99…

It was a militaristic masterpiece to witness. Journalistic standards of critical thought were fired with precision at unsuspecting targets. The opposition fell apart like poorly made sandwiches. The smarter ones, like AFRA, Joe Mas, Woody and DDD, smelled the coffee and surrendered without incident. Others, like Cranky Yankee, Philly Phan 101, Philly Keene, Jab-13, and the Milk Man, were annihilated in the fire fight.

It was the ultimate Flash Mob, except this one had literacy and formal logic on its side…

I await with great wonder at Brizer 12.0’s next move… he is the ultimate “Disraeli Gear”… Maybe we really will all get to go home again someday?

As for the franchise-tagging of my boy Peanut Jackson:

Myehhh… no big deal.  Since we’re cousins, I’m happy he got the dough ($9.4 milz) locked in for 2012…’course, his agent Drew gets a big chunk of that cake up front…

Still doesn’t solve the long-term picture, though… You still have the lingering question of whether DJax is “holding out” for a long-term contract with big-time guaranteed money. And we all know by now that in Peanut’s mind, “holding out” really means “holding back” in the avoidance of exposure to high-impact contact and possible injury… a self-protective instinct that does not bode well for team unity, despite its inherently logical premise.

I don’t have the answer to what to do next with DeSean.

I’ll just leave you with these poll results from Dave Stoessel… You remember Dave, we helped that Delaware journalist launch his terrific column Eagles Addict over a year ago…

Here’s what Dave’s poll on the DJax situation revealed about a week ago, with over 600 Philly fans responding:

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN WITH JACKSON?

Tag and Trade………………………..25%
Long-Term Deal with Philly………….50%
Play under 1-Year Franchise Tag…..16%
Let Him Walk Away………………….. 9%

Dave’s final take: “The worst thing the Eagles could do is allow Jackson to play another year under a one-year contract…It will be detrimental to the team because it will just be one more year of constant questions about his future,  analyzing his every play in every game and wondering if he’s short-arming passes [in traffic] or not trying hard on every play…”

There’s still time to rectify that potential scenario with a long-term deal or a big trade. But for now at least the Eagles have assumed the cat-bird seat on whatever happens next to Mr. Jackson.
