Failure to launch…Eagles lose 38-23 to Cowboys…

OTT

It's gonna take a miracle now for the Eagles to get to the post-season in 2012.. and certainly nothing short of a 7-0 run.

But miracles do happen. So I won't give my surrender speech just yet…

Mike Vick got knocked out of the game with double vision and concussion symptoms. Nick Foles entered the game as a rookie QB. "Shaggy" almost pulled it off…but in the end, he became a victim of unchecked  pass-rush pressure, too… And the hay was put into the Cowboys' barn, not Philly's…

The Eagles fell apart in the second half against Dallas on Sunday.

The Cowboys scored three touchdowns — one each on offense, special teams and defense — in a span of 2 minutes, 35 seconds to earn a 38-23 victory over the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick left the game in the first half and was replaced by rookie Nick Foles.

The Eagles have now lost five straight for the first time during coach Andy Reid's 14 season. They last lost five in a row to open the 1998 season in coach Ray Rhodes' final year.

The Eagles led 17-10 when Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo started the rally with a 30-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Dez Bryant on the final play of the third quarter. Dwayne Harris next scored on a 78-yard punt return, and cornerback Brandon Carr returned a tipped interception of Foles for 47 yards and a TD.

Foles replaced  Vick in the second quarter after Vick suffered his concussion. Foles completed 22-of-32 passes for 218 yards with one TD and one interception.

The Eagles cut the gap to 31-23 on fullback Stanley Havili's 1-yard TD with 1:55 to go, but Alex Henery missed his first extra point in two years.

On the next possession, Foles fumbled on a sack by Cowboys defensive tackle Anthony Spencer, and defensive tackle Jason Hatcher recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown.

And that was the ball game…

Philadelphia is now 3-6 with a visit to Washington on tap next Sunday.
Foles' first career TD pass came on a 44-yard strike to Jeremy Maclin to give the Eagles a 14-10 lead with 12:52 left in the third quarter. Maclin had seven catches for 92 yards after returning to the game after being shaken up on tumble in the first quarter.
Foles became the first Eagles rookie quarterback to throw a touchdown pass since A.J. Feeley in 2002.
Philadelphia extended the lead to 17-10 on a 40-yard field by Alex Henery with 4:36 left in the third period, but the Cowboys came back with a touchdown on the final play of the quarter on a 30-yard TD pass from Tony Romo to Dez Bryant.
Foles, the rookie from Arizona  who dazzled everyone in helping the Eagles win four preseason games, trotted on to the field to huge cheers late in the second period.
He completed three of five passes for 18 yards in the first half immediately after replacing Vick.
The Eagles found themselves down 10-7 at halftime after taking a 7-0 lead with a 10-play, 81-yard drive on their opening possession. Riley Cooper’s one-handed catch of a 2-yard pass from Vick gave the Eagles points on their first possession of a game for the first time this season.
However, the Cowboys answered with a 13-play, 80-yard drive on their first possession, getting a TD on Felix Jones 11-yard catch-and-run from Tony Romo on a play in which the Eagles missed six tackles.
Dallas took the lead with 3:54 left in the half on a 30-yard field goal by Dan Bailey that was set up by a 49-yard pass to Bryant to the Eagles 19.
Besides Vick, the Eagles also lost two receivers to injury in the first half as Maclin was taken into the locker room for evaluation after suffering a neck injury and Jason Avant also left the field with a pulled hamstring. Maclin returned, but Avant did not.
It looks grim from here, I admit. Nothing is easy with this Eagles team right now. The mainstream media will have a field day with rumors of the Andy Reid regime's impending doom.
But at 3-6, and with the Giants' (6-4) loss on Sunday, the Eagles are still alive in the NFC East division title race. Stranger things have happened… and on this disappointing Sunday, we missed beating Dallas by "just that much"…
