Cleveland Bashes Away to Split Series With Sox

The Sox had Chris Sale on the mound, so they hoped they would leave Cleveland taking the series from the Indians.   In the end, Sale would only last  innings and the Indians would bash away on Sox pitching.   The Sox battled back and scored 6 runs, but it was too little, too late.   The Sox and the Indians split the series and the Sox will not return to Fenway to take on the Orioles.

The Indians really got all over Sale in the 2nd inning.  Sale shockingly allowed 4 runs to score in the inning.  Perez hit an RBI single, Urshela hit an RBI grounder and then Lindor and Jackson both hit RBI singles.   Sox 0-4.  The Sox got one of those runs right back in the top of the 3rd when Moreland hit a solo homerun.   Sox 1-4.  Unfortunately, Sale would allow another 3 runs to score in the bottom of the 3rd.  Sale gave up an RBI double and then a 2 run RBI single to Urshela.  Sox 1-7.   We are so used to seeing Sale dominant that it was shocking to see.   Sale was done after 3 innings and the rest of the game would be in the hands of the bullpen.

The Sox bats scored three runs in the top of the 4th to be back within 3 runs.  Bogaerts hit a 2 run RBI triple and then Moreland hit an RBI single.   Sox 4-7.  Hembree came out of the pen and pitched a scoreless 4th, but wouldn’t have the same luck in the 5th.  Hembree gave up an RBI single to Urshela to have the Indians up 8-4.  Brandon Workman came out for the 6th inning and the Indians offense got to work again.  Bruce hit a solo home run and then Perez hit an RBI double.   Sox 4-10.  Blaine Boyer came out for the 7th and immediately gave up a lead off homer to Lindor.  Boyer wasn’t able to get an out, so Abad came out of the pen to finish off the inning.   Abad gave up an RBI sac fly to Guyer and then gave up an RBI double to Diaz.   Sox 4-13.

Mitch Moreland would struck again in the top of the 8th when he hit a 2 run homer, but the Sox were still down 7 runs.   Moreland’s bat has definitely come alive as of late.  Abad came back out and pitched a scoreless 8th inning, but the damage had already been done and the Indians won with ease.
