Indians Beat Sox in the Make Up Game

The Red Sox and the Indians were both supposed to have an off today on Monday night, but instead they ended up playing their make up date for the rain soaked game a few weeks ago. The Sox had Doug Fister on the mound vs. Trevor Bauer for the Indians.  Rafael Devers hit two homers during the game, but the bad news is that so did Edwin Encarnacion.  The Indians out hit the Sox and were able to coast to an easy victory.

Fister allowed three runs in the top of the 2nd to put the Indians out in front.   He gave up an RBI single to both Perez and Lindor.   Sox 0-2.  Rafael Devers got one of those runs back in the bottom of the 2nd when he hit a solo homer.   Sox 1-2.  Benintendi then made it a one run game when he hit a solo home run of his own in the 3rd inning.  Sox 2-3.  The Sox tied the game up in the 4th inning when Rafael Devers hit another home run.   Sox 3-3.  The Indians battled right back in the 5th when Edwin Encarnacion hit a 2 run homer off of Fister.   Sox 3-5.

Fister only went 4.1 innings and the rest would be in the hands of the bullpen.   Abad finished out the 5th inning and then got two outs in the 6th inning before handing the ball over to Heath Hembree.   Hembree ended up coming into the game to immediately give up another 2 run home run to Edwin Encarnacion.  The Sox were letting this game get away from them, all thanks to Encarnacion and his hot bat.  Hembree pitched a scoreless 7th inning and was able to get 2 outs in the 8th inning before handing the ball over to Brandon Workman.  Workman finished the 8th off and then pitched a scoreless 9th to close out the game.   The Sox were able to score early in the game, but weren’t able to rally back when the Indians surged ahead.

Red Sox 3  Indians 7  BOXSCORE

WP: Bauer (11-8)  LP: Fister (2-6)
