Sox Win in Extras AGAIN!

The Red Sox faced off with the Orioles once again and once again the game went into extra innings.   Drew Pomeranz and Kevin Gausman were both putting on a show on the mound and then the bullpen of both teams did the same.   The game was still 0-0 at the end of the 9th and headed into extras.   The Sox went ahead in the 11th inning once again on a wild pitch and then Barnes was able to lock down the save to get the win.   Other teams must be cringing at this point when they go into extra innings with us.

Pomeranz and Gausman both pitched well enough to get the win, but both would end up with a no decision.  The Orioles almost took the lead in the 3rd inning when Schoop hit a single and Machado tried to score from 2nd base.   Andrew Benintendi threw a bullet of a throw from left field and Machado was called out at home.   A couple innings later the O’s looked like they were gonna score once again in the 5th inning when Chris Davis hit a ball to center that looked like it would be a home run.   Lucky for the Sox and for Pomeranz, Jackie Bradley Jr. leaped over the wall and robbed him of a homer.   Sox 0-0.

Pomeranz pitched into the 7th inning and even though he pitched a great outing, he would end up with a no decision.   Pomeranz got the first out of the inning before Farrell came to get him and sent Carson Smith out to finish off the inning.   Smith got the final two outs by way of the K.  The rest of the game would be on the bullpen and they would definitely get the job done.   Addison Reed pitched the 8th and Craig Kimbrel pitched the 9th inning to officially send us into extra innings once again.  Joe Kelly came out for the 10th inning and struck out the side.   The Sox scraped a single run in the top of the 11th and were able to do with without an RBI.  The Sox got a single and two walks to load the bases.  Mitch Moreland came to the plate with two outs.  Moreland didn’t get an RBI hit, but O’s pitcher Brach threw a wild pitch and Bradley scored from 3rd.   Moreland ground out to end the inning, but the Sox now had the only run scored in the game.   Matt Barnes came out of the pen in the bottom of the 11th looking for the save and the win for the team.  Rafael Devers made a throwing error that put the tying run on 2nd base, but that was no issue for Barnes who got the third out.  The Yankees also won last night, so the Sox are still sitting on a 3 game lead in the AL East.
