Curt Schilling (5-5, 6.43) @ Jose Lima (4-12,  6.47)

The Battle of the 6 ERAs is underway tonight! After this game, the longest road trip of the season (10 games) finally comes to a close and if we can win tonight, we will be 5-5 on the trip. Since the Yankees won today, it would be nice if we could win today to avoid losing the advantage we enoy over the Yankees. History says we will do so, as we are 28-12 in series enders and we’ve won 22 of our last 32 games.
A nice tidbit is that tonights game marks the last time we will be out of Eastern Time for the rest of the season, something that should play to our advantage.
Another tidbit, which I am sure you all know: This is the latest we have been in first since we won the division in 1995.
Lastly, since July 26th, when we beat Tampa Bay 10-9 in ten innings (last night was the first time any Sox game has gone past 10 innings this season) we owe the best record.
1. Red Sox at 18-7.
2. Cleveland Indians at 19-8.
3. St. Louis Cardinals at 18-11.
4. Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, and Philadelphia Phillies at 17-11.
This game tonight is important for Curt Schilling. If he can go five scoreless, I’ll be happy. I am not expecting him to go eight innings. I also expect him to be more effective as a starter. After all, if you’ve started forever, it’s going to take a while to adjust to the closer’s role, and I’m positive Schilling hadn’t still adjusted. He only walked six batters and struck out 27 for a good K/BB rate, so I have a good feeling about this game. Time will tell…
