The LA Clippers’ victory drought continues. Tonight marks the 5th loss in 6 games for the Clippers, so is it time to panic yet? The team continued to look lethargic in tonight’s loss against San Antonio, and showed no signs of rectifying any mistakes from previous games. The biggest difference was that you could visibly see the frustration on Blake Griffin’s face tonight.
While the game was competitive in the first half, the 3rd quarter onslaught by the Spurs absolutely crushed the Clippers. Los Angeles entered the 3rd quarter up 55-52, and ended up being outscored 40-21 in the 3rd quarter. Similar to previous losses, the Clippers played with a very stagnant offense and poor defense.
Predictable Offense
The isolation play and lack of ball movement for Los Angeles continued for the 3rd game straight. Their field goal percentage was much better than previous games at 51%, however the offense was too predictable. This predictability resulted in the Spurs having 13 steals. The Clippers looked lost offensively, having 18 turnovers and 21 points scored off of those turnovers.
Zero Effort Defense
The Clippers allowed the Spurs to have both a season high in points (120), and a season high in three pointers made (15). Los Angeles almost never had a hand up during any attempted three pointers, and allowed San Antonio to get whatever they wanted. The Final Clip: Tonight was the worst loss of Clippers’ early season. They allowed a shorthanded Spurs team that averages 99.9 PPG (26th in the league), to score 120 points effortlessly. The Clippers looked awful on both ends of the floor tonight. Here’s the perfect summary of the team’s effort.
