Albert Pujols Done For The Year

Injured Los Angeles Angels star Albert Pujols hasn't played since July 26 and Monday…he decided it would be best to sit out the rest of the season.

"It's not an easy decision, as competitive as I am," the three-time MVP said, "but I also understand that we (need) to look beyond the season."

"The doctors think it's the best course of action," Angels skipper Mike Scioscia added. "For Albert, everything would have to have been perfectly aligned for him to come back and play.  I think that it's a decision that everyone can be at peace with and get everyone ready for next year."

For Pujols, some time off might just be a blessing in disguise.  The nine-time All-Star is in the midst of the worst season of his 13-year career and due to his injury, Pujols posted career lows in batting average (.258), on-base percentage (.330) and slugging percentage (.437).  In addition to that, Pujols will finish with fewer than 30 homers for the first time in his career and just eight shy of the 500 home run milestone.

Oh, it should also be noted that the folks with @BestFansStLouis didn't miss the fact that the Angels are going to be without their $240 million man.
