Milwaukee Brewers to Avoid High Fives. Seriously

Nearly 38 years ago, Los Angeles Dodgers teammates Dusty Baker and Glenn Burke were credited, by some, with inventing the “high five”. Friday, the Milwaukee Brewers outlawed the congratulatory gesture.

The reason? An outbreak of pinkeye.

“We’ve been going through it for a while and it seems like a couple of more show up every day,” manager Ron Roenicke said. “We can’t have it go through the whole clubhouse.”

But don’t worry, once the contagious infection disappears…the “high five” will be back. Until then, however, players are supposed to tap elbows or bump batting glove-covered fists.

Boring.
