Reliever Travis Wood Honored in Hometown

Every hero is honored differently.

In 1947, the first Babe Ruth Day was celebrated on April 27 when the larger-than-life (and dying) baseball player spoke briefly to a crowd of nearly 60,000 people at Yankee Stadium.

Since 2001, Major League Baseball designated September 17 as Roberto Clemente Day, the day in which they honor the former Pittsburgh Pirates legend.

Bryant, Arkansas did this on Friday.

The town, less than 30 minutes southwest of Little Rock, celebrated November 11 as it proclaimed “Travis Wood Day” across the state of Arkansas. And not only did the 2016 Chicago Cubs World Series Champion get a parade, but dude also got a street named in his honor.

Not too shabby.

“We have three great reasons to come together as a community and celebrate on Friday. First to honor and celebrate our brave veterans, second to welcome home a World Series Champion, and third to cheer on the Hornets as they begin the playoffs,” Bryant Mayor Jill Dabbs said.

‘merica.
