These changes for the Eagles: Dan Baker no longer employed by that team across the street

Dan Baker is the longtime public address announcer for the Philadelphia Phillies. He also handled the same responsibilities for the Philadelphia Eagles for nearly three full decades, dating back to when the teams shared a home in Veterans Stadium. Baker’s job status with the Eagles has been changed though, with the Eagles moving in a new direction for the stadium PA role at Lincoln Financial Field.

“Dan is the ultimate professional and even though he was disappointed with the direction we are heading, he was accepting of our decision to make the change,” team president Don Smolenski is quoted as saying in the statement, via 6 ABC.

Baker, always the class act, had nothing but nice things to say about the Eagles as he accepts the decision.

“I want to thank Mr. Lurie, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the fans for the privilege of announcing 29 great years of Eagles football,” said Baker. “It has truly been an honor.”

I cannot say how much Baker’s voice will be missed at an Eagles game, to be honest, but I do know there will be a day when Baker is not the voice addressing the crowd for the Phillies, and that thought saddens me. Fortunately, I cannot envision a time when the Phillies would make a similar decision regarding Baker’s status. I strongly believe he will have a job at Citizens Bank Park for about as long as he wants.
