Halo Headlines: Tropeano Close to Return; Pujols Banged Up

The Tuesday, June 21, 2016 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes a rehabbing player getting set to join the club, a veteran playing through leg issues, and more…

The Story: Nick Tropeano to have one, maybe two more rehab starts before joining Angels

MWAH Says: The Tropedo had been one of the better Angel pitchers before he went down to the DL with shoulder soreness.  It will be good to get him back into the rotation not only so he can help the Angels chalk up a few more wins this season, but also so he can get some more experience dealing with Major League batters since he figures to be an important piece of the Angel puzzle in the future.

The Story: Albert Pujols Is All Banged Up

MWAH Says: For a player who relies so much on his lower half, it’s no wonder that Pujols’ power has been zapped while dealing with a sore ankle and hamstring.  Baseball Info Solutions claims that of the balls Pujols has hit in play this season, 21.1% of them fall into the “softly hit” category.

The Story: Lincecum Is No Longer an Ace

MWAH Says: Not one of the bold statements of the year as no one expects Slim Tim to compete for another Cy Young Award, but Sports Illustrated‘s Cliff Corcoran is trying his best to throw a wet blanket on Lincecum’s comeback story in this article, saying that “he was not impressive” in his six inning, one-run-allowed Angel debut on Saturday.  His main complaints are that Lincecum only struck out two batters and he almost gave up a home run to Stephen Vogt.  Yeesh.

The Story: Angels 24th in ESPN’s Power Rankings

MWAH Says:  Sounds about right.  The Angels have Mike Trout, the league’s best lead off hitter in Yunel Escobar, Kole Calhoun at number 15 in the league in OBP, and Matt Shoemaker on an incredible roll, but you can’t argue with the team’s sub-.500 record.

The Story: Double-A Arkansas Is on a Four Game Win Streak

MWAH Says: In addition to the excellent starting pitching the Travelers got during this little run, their offense received a tremendous boost from outfielder Jabari Henry who hit three home runs, batted .400, and drew four walks during this streak.
