Halo Headlines: Angels scouting Masahiro Tanaka, Scioscia confident he will return

The September 18th, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Angels scouting Masahiro Tanaka, Scioscia confident he will return and much more…

The Story: The Angels have scouted Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.

The Monkey Says: This is an exciting development as the Halos have uniformly punted on international free agents the last few years. Of course, just about everyone will be in on Tanaka, so they have a lot of work to do when it comes to landing the young ace.

The Story: Mike Scioscia is reportedly expressing confidence that he will return to the Angels in 2014.

The Monkey Says: I hope that is not the case, not because I dislike Scioscia, but because replacing Dipoto seems like it will do a lot more damage in the long run. Alas, all the tea leaves suggest that Scioscia will stay and Dipoto will get canned, even if it defies logic.

The Story: Tommy Hanson isn't likely to get much of a chance to re-prove himself before the end of the season.

The Monkey Says: Scioscia pretty much takes a dump on him here. He is as good as non-tendered.

The Story: Chris Nelson has been activated from the DL.

The Monkey Says: Finally, our long national nightmare is over.

The Story: Could the trade market be better for Shuck and Calhoun than Peter Bourjos?

The Monkey Says: Calhoun? Maybe. Shuck? No way. Shuck has exceeded expectations, but he is still just a reserve outfielder and MLB front offices are too smart to think he is anything more than that even if parts of the fan base aren't.
