Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg was named to the post-spring Heisman Watch List by HeismanPundit.com. Hackenberg is the only Nittany Lion on the watch list, although there are three other Big Ten players appearing on the watch list.
Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah, Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon – who I believe will be the Big Ten’s leading rusher in 2014 – and Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller are also on the watch list. If I had to take a pick of a Big Ten player with the best chance to win the Heisman Trophy, it would Ohio State’s Miller. I still believe when healthy Miller is the best player the Big Ten has to offer because he has the ability to make plays happen through the air and on the ground. I know Michigan State got the best of him in last season’s Big Ten championship game and Clemson beat him up pretty soundly, but if Miller thrives then so should the Buckeyes and having a team in the national title conversation at the end of the season can go a long way for a quarterback.
